Kallanish is a media organization focusing on steel and headquartered in the UK. Kallanish organized an international conference called ‘Asia Steel Markets 2024’ with backing from Japan Metal Daily, and the conference began from March 27th at Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.
From Japan, Mr. Kazuo Fujisawa, JFE Steel Principal, participated in the conference as one of the speakers. During his speech, Mr. Fujisawa discussed such matters as global steel demand trends, JFE’s measures toward realizing carbon neutrality and the adoption numbers of the company’s green steel product ‘JGreeX (pronounced jay-greeks)’. Mr. Nghiem Xuan Da, Chairman of Vietnam Steel Association (VSA), expressed his concerns regarding the increasing volume of sheet exports from China and also discussed other matters. Mr. Martin Paul Smith, Business Development Director of Asia Iron & Steel for Primetals Technologies, explained the progress being made at his company with regards to the development of the hydrogen reduction iron-making technology ‘HyREX (pronounced hi-rex)’ and also ‘HYFOR (pronounced hi-for)’.
The conference was held for 2 days during March 27th-28th and nearly 300 people participated, including JFE Steel Vietnam President Mr. Yasumasa Yoshiki. During the morning hours of March 27th, a plant tour was conducted in which participants visited the cold rolling company POSCO VIETNAM and the electric arc furnace steelmaker Posco Yamato Vina Steel (PY VINA).
