Yamaguchi Heavy Industries (headquartered in Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, President Mr. Toyokazu Yamaguchi) is a fabricator(steel frame manufacturer) with H-grade certification based on the standards set by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. On February 1st the company acquired ‘PAS 2080’ certification. PAS 2080 is an international standard for carbon neutrality (achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions) produced by the British Standards Institution (BSI). They have become the first company/organization in Asia to acquire PAS 2080 certification, and also the world’s first company in the steel industry to do so as well.

PAS 2080 is a standard that certifies that a given company or organization has the capabilities to calculate and manage the carbon emissions related to their business plans. Compared to ‘PAS 2060’, which was produced before PAS 2080, the latter standard specializes in dealing with building and infrastructure design. For example, companies certified by PAS 2080 have the option to make public the carbon emissions from a given construction work project by calculating the emissions based on a set of standards and by reaching a contractual agreement with their clients.

Going forward Yamaguchi Heavy Industries will emphasize the fact that they are now an organization that has acquired PAS 2080 certification to companies seeking to reduce carbon emissions and to those aiming to provide added value related to carbon neutrality as part of their business.

President Yamaguchi stated “Steel frame manufacturers like our company are positioned in the middle parts of the construction business supply chain, and we would like to create and provide new types of added value together with companies both upstream and downstream by actively adopting the use of green steel products and by conducting carbon management (making contributions to reduce greenhouse gas, including CO2).”
